Stretch Mark Creams

Stretch mark creams and lotions are an inexpensive treatment to fade, if not completely eliminate, stretch mark scars. Stretch marks are seen as thin, indented streaks appearing on the surface of the skin. These occur when the skin has been stretched over its limit in a short period of time. Rapid stretching can come with weight gain or weight loss. When the skin is stretched over its limit, collagen production in the skin becomes inhibited. Collagen is important because it strengthens the tissues of the skin. If the skin does not have enough collagen, it becomes prone to breakage, causing stretch marks.

Stretch marks can become bothersome for millions of pregnant women. These are often seen on the abdomen, because the abdomen bears the brunt of the stretching during the later trimesters of pregnancy. As the baby grows bigger, the abdomen, including the skin, expands to accommodate it. Some women can also have scars on the breasts, buttocks, hips, and thighs.

It is in the nature of stretch marks to fade after a period of time. These scars begin as pinkish, purplish, or brownish in color. As time passes, these scars become silver or white. While this can make the stretch marks seem less noticeable, stretch marks cannot disappear completely, unless you are willing to pay a large amount of money to get rid of it. Even then, there is no guarantee that stretch marks will disappear for good.

A variety of stretch mark creams and lotions are already present in the market. Most of these claim to completely eradicate stretch marks. However, their effectiveness is still a matter of doubt. In order to get the best treatment for your stretch marks, you cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist would know best.
